It has been difficult to discern whether the situation with people getting arrested for social media posts in the UK is really as bad as it seems. Anecdotes create a lot of emotion, but it is possible they are not as common as they seem.

Here is an upcoming report that puts numbers on how widespread getting arrested for a social media post is in the UK:

The report, by campaign group Big Brother Watch, discloses that at least 62,199 people in the UK have been arrested for such offences over the past half-decade, with 18,510 being charged and 12,292 convicted.

The article references a number of outrageous anecdotes and doesn't do much with actual data, but hopefully this upcoming report will be interesting.
