Every guy that signed with them this offseason took less money to do so. A lot of things are plausible. The 49ers treating a guy who has been in the org for years and a good solider like crap is not one of them.

Now if another team had picked him up and added him to their 53 it would be a different story. Then yes he would have to leave Australia and join his new team but even if they didn't re-sign him to the PS they would not have sent him home that's complete nonsense.
