There is no denying that within China there is suppression of individuals rights and freedoms relative to what has been the norm in the west in recent times- however the west is no angel in terms of rights, although it can be argued that most of the wests aggression towards individuals and others is externalized - ie military and diplomatic violence and use of force against other nations and their peoples.
China is much less guilty of interference in the governance and rights of other sovereign nations than the US and the other western imperialist powers historically.
China learned from The Opium Wars that The West will not respect its sovereignty and this has forced China to respond - it has done so by building an economy so strong that it carries with it significant strategic power projection.Few other nations on the planet are able to resist the bullying and aggression of the US.
