The monero people have forked Stacker News.

They call it Stasher News and it seems to be a pretty close clone. I don't have any monero, so I haven't tested out the way they made the wallet work.

Is this the pay to post revolution?

Looks like maybe donttracemebruh is the developer behind it?

Looks cool, but only email signup and not FOSS

I don't have any monero, so I haven't tested out the way they made the wallet work.

It's a p2p payment via QR code and they take no cut, but can verify the payment. No attached wallets afaict without an account.

not FOSS is not cool

i know SN is MIT license, but still. u gotta show some respect

Asked about the GitHub link on Stasher already: https://stasher.news/items/338667
They said the source is coming out tomorrow.

reply

Oh cool!

it's kind of a compliment to the idea

maybe they will release the source code later, but not sure why not release the code now - what's their attack surface without attached wallets?

edit: oh, maybe how rewards are implemented

only email signup

ohh, i was wrong, you can create an account with 12 words

you can signup generating a 12world seed, not sure that a wallet or just a stasher backup.

would have been very funny if you couldn't post as @anon

but damn, 0.003xmr for a comment is a lot, that's 2000 sats

reply

I didn't look at it much, but do they really not have a Sybil fee?

reply
103 sats \ 1 reply \ @ek 20h

Mhh, good question, I don’t think they can take a sybil fee with p2p onchain payments

So this should be easy to exploit

reply

Someone tipped me 100 XMR but I only received 70 XMR. Why?

This no longer happens. Tips are delivered peer-to-peer: 100% of a tip goes to its author and nothing is taken from tips along the way.

lol

reply

Lol if you build something monero will fork it, pretty on brand, do they also have confidential cowboy credits CCC?

The weekly rewards are distributed every Monday morning. To be eligible, you must have upvoted new content that eventually made its way to the front-page. That means upvoting QUALITY content. Rewards are basically a finder's fee for high quality, or viral content. This is how Stasher News rewards curators.
Currently, the top 10 curators receive weekly rewards. We wanted to start with a low number like 10, so that the rewards don't get diluted too much when the platform is new and there are few users

Imagine the outrage if SN did that... rent-seeking, insider enrichment!

It makes the original more original, like Bitcoin.

reply

The question is why they don't create something similar to lightning network over monero?

reply

Looks pretty same in design!

Now I wonder why not I offer the idea to someone of creating another stacker news clone with India's UPI system which is very close to Bitcoin Lightning Network in utility..it's only that UPI uses fiat and mobile number as a link.

Actually .. wanna add my part to the "pay to post revolution" haha.

reply

Have to say, the UX is much better over there. SN has, and will have, much to learn from this clone.

is it? the font page is so "noisy" / messy.

reply

Wow imitation is really the best form of flattery

I find it quite brazen that no modifications / adaptations have been applied. Just copy wholesale

They have boosts and donations?! And something called a turf fee

reply

Hahaha, it's the same, just with fewer rewards.

reply

Very cool. It's cool to see how easy the wallet infrastructure is.
