This 4-panel comic is one of the most legendary memes in crypto culture. It doesn't need many words — but anyone who has held coins through a downtrend will get it instantly.

The Scene

Panel 1 & 2: A girl with purple hair holding a knife, facing a guy in a white t-shirt. She stabs the knife straight into his chest. It's a violent act, but the guy's expression remains completely blank, no panic at all.

Panel 3: The guy looks down at the knife stuck in his chest and says: "YOU CAN'T HURT ME"

Panel 4 (The Punchline): A close-up of the guy, blood starting to drip but his face still stone-cold. He says: "I hodl from 2017"

Why It's So Funny and So Painful?

The joke is in the word HODL.

HODL was originally a typo for HOLD on the Bitcointalk forum in 2013, later reinterpreted by the community as Hold On for Dear Life.

If you've been hodling since 2017, what have you been through?

The historic peak in late 2017 when Bitcoin hit nearly $20,000 and then collapsed to $3,200 in 2018. Your portfolio divided by 5, divided by 10.
2 long, brutal years of crypto winter 2018-2019, when everyone said Bitcoin was dead.
The COVID crash in March 2020, then the Luna / FTX collapses in 2022.
Countless times your friends, family, and the media called you an idiot, a scammer.

After enduring that kind of financial pain, mockery, and mental torture for 7-8 years, a physical stab wound... is really nothing. The pain of the market has made all other feelings numb.

That's the philosophy of "Diamond Hands". When you've been down 80% and still didn't sell, you're immune to any other kind of hurt.

This meme is the perfect self-mockery of the OG holder generation. It’s both a flex about surviving, and a lament: to achieve that immortality, we had to die and come back to life in the market so many times.

You can't hurt a man who has watched his portfolio go -90% in the morning and still went to work like nothing happened.
