James 3:13 speaks clearly about true wisdom according to the Bible:

«“Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.”
— James 3:13»

This can be understood in four ways:

  1. Wisdom must be demonstrated through life
A truly wise person is not simply someone who speaks well, knows a lot, or argues skillfully. Wisdom is revealed through the way they live and act.
  2. Actions matter more than words
James asks, “Who is wise?” and immediately points to a good life and good deeds. Faith and wisdom should produce visible results in real life.
  3. Humility is a sign of wisdom
“Humility that comes from wisdom” shows that a wise person does not need to prove that they are superior to others. They may know much while still recognizing their own limitations.
  4. Biblical wisdom is different from intelligence alone
A person can be highly intelligent yet still be proud or act wrongly. In James 3, wisdom is recognized through character and deeds, not merely through knowledge.

In summary:

«Biblical wisdom is not merely knowing what is right; it is living rightly with humility.»

The following verse, James 3:17, further describes wisdom from above as “pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated...” This shows that true wisdom is also recognized through our character and the way we treat others.
