I’m starting to look at crypto a little more seriously now.
Let’s say Bitcoin works exactly like supporters hope: hard money, less manipulation, available worldwide and widely adopted.
What doesn’t it fix?
People will still be greedy, corrupt and desperate. Power will probably still concentrate somewhere. Does Bitcoin actually change those problems, or does it just change the tool people use to play the same game?
I’m genuinely curious where longtime Bitcoiners think its limits are.
Almost everything.
Americans' shitty values, obesity. The dominatrix Europooreans
That’s honestly where my mind goes too. Changing money can’t fix a culture whose values are deteriorating.
The rise of prediction markets bothers me for those reasons. We’re turning everything, even human suffering into things to bet on. Bitcoin may limit monetary manipulation, but what keeps society from becoming even more transactional?
BITCOIN. It is an open-source tool; we cannot decide what constitutes a good use or not – it is up to each individual to decide what to do with it. Bitcoin’s function is to be immutable and to confirm blocks every 10 minutes.
