I doubt it very much but with decades of the US milking their vast oil reserves perhaps they thought it was the honourable and decent thing to try!
Ditto Iran since 1953 when the CIA removed their democratically elected leader Mossaddegh after he nationalised Irans oil sector.
It may take time, risk and blood to regain your sovereignty but what other honourable path is their for any self respecting nation when you have been serially exploited by an external imperialist power like the USA?
If they didn't want the Americans drilling for their oil (and actually paying for it), why the hell did they let them build all the infrastructure just to rip it off without paying a dime? Someone definitely broke the deal!
They say history is written by the victors, but this is a complicated issue since you don't mention the external factors that influenced these graphs. I'm talking about pressures on that government that hinder its administration, and you're not taking them into account. There's a lot to unpack here.
The worst part of all is that there are still so many people so many inside Venezuela who continue to support Chavismo; I was absolutely shocked when I arrived back in Venezuela. To me, it was inconceivable, but yes, there are still people who have been brainwashed.
They’re probably the ones who profited the most from the revolution. Pure ignorance that cost everyone big time. Now, only time will fix that.
That is the first thing that comes to mind that these must be people who are benefiting but no; there are people who are suffering really suffering yet they continue to trust the government and believe what they say on TV: "being rich is bad," "it’s all the United States' fault," "the blockade caused the shortages," and so on, with an endless stream of excuses.
I wish the US Government wouldn't make themselves such easy scapegoats.
