I've long said I'm in the wrong line of work (#1507003). Now, even the nannies are taking Den for a spin.
Incredible.
SHE WORKS at least 12 hours a day, seven days a week—but then has a week off. She might earn $200,000 a year, which at an hourly rate is on a par with a private-equity associate. High pay for long hours on a rota is common on oil platforms, in mines and on container ships. It is increasingly so in another exacting field: caring for the children of the super-rich.
Yeah, check-check-check. WHERE DO I SIGN?!
Clients demand nannies who have not only trained at the best academies but also speak several languages, have degrees from elite universities and are willing to travel constantly and put in very long days. And they are willing to pay.
oohoh, I guess I fail on this department:
The basics of nannying for the children of the very rich are the same as for those of the merely affluent: bottle-feeding, preparing meals, trips to the playground. But the surroundings and expectations can make the job almost unrecognisable. Often a nanny is just one of a dozen staff, rather than the sole employee. Travelling with the family is different too. “They want nannies that have experience on yachts and jets,” Ms Rogers says. “It’s just a given.” Not everyone is cut out to thrive in an environment that can be “like ‘Succession’”, she adds. “This extreme wealth can be a lot for somebody that’s never been exposed to it.”
I've seen a yacht once or twice, does that count...? (in my defense, I also don't give much of a fuck? #929023.) Maybe I'm cut out for babysitting the future rich Bitcoiners' kids... I can teach them about the monetary system while we're at it!
"To some, nannying for the super-rich is enjoyably glamorous."
The show [Million Dollar Nannies] featured more tantrums by adults than by toddlers. But it offered a twist on the usual escapism: the fantasy was not being one of the rich, but being employed by them.
Believable.

how big an industry is nanny-ing for this group? I mean, there aren't exactly millions and millions of billionaires (internet says -~3500). How much does one need to be living the yacht, private jet, $200k/year nanny lifestyle? More than $10 million networth. More than $50mm? Maybe that's the cutoff. Still, this can't be a very big market.
It's good work if you can get it
even centi-millionaires would do for me. I don't discriminate.
Many years ago my wife worked for an ultra rich family for a few months to help cover a leave from one of their staff. She essentially was supervisor of the help. She had to make sure things around the house ran smoothly and everything needed was stocked. She didn't directly have to mind the kids because they had another person for that but she had to make sure everything they needed was organized. She said it was a fun job.
good good good. Lemme know if they reach out looking for highly educated, language-proficient, blah-blah-blah baby-sitters. I come highly recommended
You can teach the kids chess and put them to sleep with economics essays. You are an excellent candidate.
THAT TOO!
THIS IS MY CALLING
I mean everything just points to the growth of a new aristocracy. DoorDash is just distributed servanthood. Let me know when it's time to storm the Bastille
