Brutal wars, torturous executions, and violent revolutions have always been justified on moral grounds. In order to break out of endless cycles of violence, Hans-Georg Moeller, expert in European and ancient Chinese philosophy, argues that we need to suspend morality and become amoral. Drawing on wisdom from Wittgenstein to Zhuangzi, Moeller argues that trying to be moral often only does more harm than good.
A great article!
Any extreme can produce horrible evil. We're living in the techno-bureaucracy world now where, despite what we see people say for headlines, is predominantly driven by soft and hard controls coded into systems we use everyday. The extreme of that, opposite of extreme morals, is the world envisioned by George Orwell in, 1984. Everything has a rule. Behave wrong, you get punished. Don't get caught up in why the rule changed. Just follow the rule.
This is definitely a "be careful what you wish for" thing.
I'd argue that it's not morals which cause violence, it's miscalibrated morals.
