I think it is pretty normal to ask for someone's IG or WhatsApp at an event, and I assume they are just trying to connect and maybe become friends even? In our pursuit for "privacy" we should be careful we don't cut ourselves off from the world because of some imagined purity test.
This kind of thing is promoted as healthy in some parts of the Bitcoin world, but I think it is not so good to be cut off from the world we live in.
Can always use an app like beeper to handle the instagram messages instead of using the app anyway.

What a creepy thing to ask, lol. No one ever asks me that, but I probably fall outside of the demographic anyway.
How do you guys handle this?
I have a garbage signal account that I allow people access to, and that phone is always off - I read it a couple times per month. People can get "promoted" to an account I actually use, if they behave and turn out to be good relations, which almost never happens - there are 5 non-fam people on my production signal right now and all but one is fully muted, lol.

I can relate... I created a bare IG account to keep in touch with people I met on a recent cruise
That's something social media can never replace, the interaction, the hugs, and looking into someone's eyes.
But when you go to events, people keep asking for your IG; sometimes I don't know if I should make one so that "I am a normal person," but then again, I probably won't see most of them again; How do you guys handle this? I do want to connect with people whom I find interesting or admire while still staying relatively low-profile online.
