Using arbitrary data storage on Bitcoin L1 (like Inscriptions or state proofs) increases blockchain size growth, raising hardware requirements for full node operators.

My take:

  • Paying high transaction fees for block space pays miners and secures the network regardless of what data is stored in the witness script.
  • Purists argue that bloating node storage with non-monetary data makes running home nodes unaffordable over time, hurting decentralization.

Should block space be an open market for any payload that pays the fee, or should node operators filter non-monetary data? Share your strategy below! 👇
