Declines for two months in a row.
What I found very interesting was most of the Canadian news outlets are framing this as a complete "surprise". Really? Not a surprise to me or anyone I know.
I actually had to search for an article that didn't include "surprise" in the headline.
It makes you wonder where the talking point comes from. Is it outlets just being lazy and taking what the Canadian press reported or is this intentional framing in conjunction with the government who spends 1.7B annually "supporting" media. Food for thought.
Here is the article (sans surprise) for anyone interested. https://archive.ph/ULGTv
What industries are being hard hit?
Most of the [job losses] were reported in the educational services sector, which lost 35,000 jobs or a decrease of 2.2 per cent month over month in September. Employment in the health care and assistance sector also dipped by 23,000 jobs or 0.8 per cent month over month during the same time period, as well as the manufacturing sector, which lost 13,000 jobs or 0.7 per cent month over month.
Is Canada facing a population cliff like the US? I forecast the US to lose tons of education jobs as well, just because there aren't enough young people.
Healthcare is surprising, though. That is one of the only robust employment growth sectors in the US, fueled by aging populations and public money.
When you just execute your patients, you don't need so many healthcare professionals. Let's hope our public health experts don't take notice.
Apparently we are reassessing our MAID criteria. There has been some criticism that it is too lenient.
My wife and I are on opposite sides of this. I think it should be lawful to decide you want to end it peacefully. She thinks it shouldn't be allowed. But we both think that an attitude of "my life is not worth living because of this or that" generally shouldn't be encouraged. I hate that where to draw that line is becoming a matter for politicians and doctors.
I am good with MAID. But it would also be great if we allowed people to explore every possible avenue to save/extend their lives as well.
"Justice Steeves ruled that while long surgical wait times cause pain and suffering, the restrictions are constitutional and serve to protect a universal public health-care system based on need rather than wealth". Sorry you have to wait for that life saving treatment even if you are willing to pay for it privately but if you want to kill yourself instead we have an opening next week.
What kind of ghoul can take the high road while inflicting so much unnecessary torment on people that they choose to end their lives rather than endure it?
damn that's fucked
I feel similarly to you on this.
The last numbers I had seen were really startling.
Isn't it the 3rd leading cause of death in canada, sometihng like that?
Sounds plausible
Immigration had slowed because it was an election issue. They are ramping it up again now.
Sounds like 58k jobs lost due to budget cuts?
One thing I will give the current government credit for is they are cutting gov jobs modestly. But the economy sucks so the private sector isn't making up for it. It will be interesting to see if they continue. I imagine they will not but they have a lot of cover for the economy to suck and blame it on Trump.
I’m curious to know how you intend to guide your children to navigate this uncertain job market
The US hit peak 18 year old last year. This implies that the higher education industry as a whole will have fewer customers this year and on (as long as the trend continues). I imagine this was a visible trend for some time, but I wonder how many institutions actually thought about a plan.
