pull down to refresh

Conflicting thoughts pulled at my heart and my mind, spiralling me into a vortex of confusion. Should I stay at home to tackle my mounting pile of work or should I travel all the way to my previous workplace and reunite briefly with my ex-associates? It was a question with no easy solution, and I mentally flip-flopped the pros and cons of both options, just like a roti prata master would. I could feel a headache creeping across my temples.

I decided to give my dilemma a rest.

What would you do?

I'd try to get the mounting pile out of the way. I don't think I could enjoy a social gathering with a lot of unfinished work nagging at my brain.

if I were five years younger, I would prioritise work over relationships. But since I don’t care about climbing the corporate ladder, it’s connections I value more! Work will never be finished haha

Here’s what I wrote

After a ferocious battle between my heart and my mind, the former won. If I were to forfeit this chance, who knows if the next opportunity would fall into my lap unannounced like a surprise gift again? So, I made the effort to go back just to…

have a meal with my former charges. Some of them were more talkative than before, filling me in on random stuff that had happened in their lives. Others quietly ate their nasi padang with fried chicken cutlet. Regardless of lively chatter or companionable silence, it felt as if I had never left them. That something as mundane as a meal at the canteen could evoke such sentimental vibes simply because I was no longer intimately connected with their lives was the emotional boost I needed myself. It’s good to be back, I muttered under my breath.
