Katie Zacharia has been fired as White House press secretary less than a week into the job, according to three people familiar with the decision.
Trump cast it differently Friday, telling reporters he had urged her to “reconsider” the role. Recounting their conversation, he said he asked whether she really needed the job and told her he didn’t think she did.
Her tenure unraveled fast. Zacharia’s first and only briefing on Tuesday went poorly, and days of headlines followed over whether she had presented herself as a lawyer, a label Trump himself used, even though she failed the bar exam.
Neither the White House nor Zacharia responded to requests for comment.
Not that I care about any of this, but since when do you need to be a lawyer to do a press secretary role?
And passing the bar exam doesn't seem to guarantee a basic level of knowledge. i've heard a lot of lawyers don't even know what a woman is.
Objection!
You are objectifying a human who could possibly be classified in other genders or not a gender at all and instead an "it." You need to apologize and go back and take remedial sociology all over again.
off to the gulag with me
I believe that a secretary must, above all, be someone with strong communication skills.
She was genuinely awful in her one press conference, and not helped by the fact that her predecessor was absolutely amazing at the same job (possibly the best of all time). But being an embarrassment to Trump was an unforgivable sin.
