There are plenty of other girls my daughter’s age in our neighborhood but they never get together to play.

Underrated aspect is decline of the neighborhood.  Very few of our friends actually live in walking distance, so drop in visits aren't the norm.  Not sure how/why that happened.

I’ve definitely noticed this with parenting. Setting up “play dates” is like pulling teeth compared to the regularity of going over to a friend’s house when I was a kid.
