Not what I'd choose. I know too many people from there to see it with the same reverence you see it with.

I am only in part jesting, and certainly limit any reverence to China to its economic growth performance which is significant, but as you note above people clamour to go to USA because it still enjoys the greater wealth and security.
It seems probable that with China winning the trade war and the military war that Trump has engaged in subsequently that China will be the centre of wealth creation and prosperity in this century.
USA simply doesn't produce enough of what the world needs and wants anymore- instead it is a rogue state clinging to its legacy petrodollar extraordinary privilege- that does not seem sustainable for much longer.

reply

"Not sustainable" and "not sustainable for much longer" are often not the same thing

reply

Sure but the end result, sometime downstream from 2026, is the same.

reply

That result isn't going to be China as the world's leading wealth creator, though, unless they make some very unlikely reforms and fix their demographic crisis.

reply

They lead the world in robotics and most of the post industrial tech sectors.
Chinese exports of robotics rose 30% over the last 12 months.
You struggle to understand the importance of the role of governments in economies and so you fail to understand the logic driving the Chinese domination of global trade and wealth creation.
In large part their success has been in ignoring the 'advice' of self serving neoliberal western imperialists which has been imposed upon other nations- it is duplicitous poison.
The Princes of Yen is a documentary you appear to have not yet watched and understood.
There are many others too which explain the toxic nature of IMF-World Bank- US petrodollar originating economic development prescriptions dished out to other nations.

I don't struggle to understand it. I understand the counterproductive nature of central planning. Per capita GDP in China won't ever reach even half what it is in America, unless they make major market reforms.

We've seen this story before and people like you always project out trends that won't last, cherry pick largely irrelevant data points, and completely fail to grasp what an economy even is for.

reply

You don't understand the counter productive nature of USA having lost access to refined rare earths and now being unable to re arm its military after expending much of its high tech missiles and other armaments which are almost all dependent upon refined rare earths components.

We do not and cannot with certainty know the future but we can see the trends up to now- and the trend is China gaining economic power and dominance and USA losing it.

You might assert posting Chinas overwhelming dominance in electricity power generation capacity and cost of production is cherrypicking, but its not...it is just another of many examples that you cannot credibly and directly refute.

Blinded by your own neoliberal ideological and cultural biases.

the counter productive nature of USA having lost access to refined rare earths

That's a temporary blip. Rare Earths aren't actually rare, they're just environmentally destructive and expensive to dig up. Push come to shove, the America and anyone else can mine their own.

the trend is China gaining economic power and dominance and USA losing it

Certainly the first part. America is the only major western economy that's continued growing, though, so it's not obvious to me that it's declining.

dominance in electricity power generation

I don't need to refute it. There are 4x as many people in China, so they still are not generating as much electricity per person. Further, an enormous amount of US energy use is not from electricity, so just showing electricity is misleading.

lol, the bot is programmed to love Xi.

reply

The Libertarian bot receives welfare payments from the Icelandic government.

Without the beneficence of the Icelandic government and its taxpayers OP would starve.

I am a neutral observer and say fuck Xi, Fuck Trump.

You cannot say either.

You are a coward and a hypocrite.
