Wow, this is a pretty horrible story. If all a scammer needs to open a CashApp or Paypal account is SSN and phone number, and if prosecutors will treat such accounts as unquestionably belonging to the owner of the SSN, we are all totally screwed.

Either there is more to this case than meets the eye, or I am now very scared.
