The full campus of the Barack Obama Presidential Center on Chicago's South Side is now expected to cost 1.23T sats ($1B). That is more than double the original price tag of 430B sats ($350M).

The latest Obama Foundation filing puts the projection about 112B sats ($91M) above the September figure of 1.12T sats ($909M), and that excludes another 151B sats ($123M) in publicly financed infrastructure improvements.

The budget path tells the story: 430B sats ($350M) at announcement, 614B sats ($500M) when design was completed in 2017, 1.04T sats ($850M) by early September, and now 1.23T sats ($1B).

The foundation says the increases came from added scope, like the 60,000 sq ft Home Court basketball center, plus public art and insurance, 

and that it was all raised in private contributions.

 Lakeside Alliance, the joint venture led by Turner Construction that built the main building, says its costs have not increased since finishing early last year. Trade contractors on the campus say they have not been told any of the latest increase goes toward resolving liens and other legal actions.

I find this hilarious. Obama, the man of the people, is spending 1.23T sats ($1B) on his own presidential center. With “private investors” footing the bill Sad how much wealth comes to public figures just for holding office.
