Was an English writer best known for his books about the teddy bearWinnie-the-Pooh, as well as children's poetry. Milne was primarily a playwright before the huge success of Winnie-the-Pooh overshadowed his previous work. He served as a lieutenant in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment in the First World War and as a captain in the Home Guard in the Second World War.[1]
After Milne's death in 1956, his widow sold her rights to the Pooh characters to Stephen Slesinger, whose widow sold the rights after Slesinger's death to Walt Disney Productions, which has made many Pooh cartoon movies
Son of a book seller who taught himself how to read at age two. Served in both World Wars and denounced war in one of his books.
A trip to the zoo inspired him to write Winnie The Pooh for his son. The bear was first named Edward but then renamed to Winnie after AA encountered a Canadian black bear in Winnipeg!! Disney did a good job bringing this character to the world. I wasn’t a huge fan of Winnie growing up but it’s nice to know the history of how he came to the world.
Looks like the Brits want their stuff back 😆
