I am building a free-to-play game where users can claim points for every action they perform in the game. The points-earning system will run for three seasons, which I call the Foundational Phase of the game.
Once this phase is over, I will decide what to do with the points users have accumulated. One idea is to convert those points into token rewards for users.
I would like to know if it is possible to create tokens on Nostr that users can claim using their npub addresses.
I would appreciate any insights or suggestions. Thank you!
What is the difference between a "point" and a "token"?
Good question. The point is game utility that has nothing attached to it while the token will be the intend game utility and it will be derived from the points obtained and it will have monetary value attach to it.
...if tokens are derived from points, that means points have something attached to it.
Why not just have one token (Bitcoin) instead of tokens and points?
Initially, I planned to launch GoalArc in an EVM environment, but my recent research into Nostr has convinced me that it might be the perfect environment for GoalArc.
However, I have one concern: most Bitcoiners don't like the idea of tokens. For many of them, it's Bitcoin and nothing else. That's what led me to make that post.
Short answer: Nostr itself has no tokens. It's just signed events relayed between clients, with no ledger or consensus, so there's nothing that could stop someone double-spending a "token" defined in Nostr events alone.
What people actually do instead:
lud16). At the end of a season you convert points into sats and zap each player's npub. No token issuance and no new asset for players to figure out how to sell. This is the simplest and what most Nostr apps already support. Also, keep the points-to-reward conversion rule public before the seasons start. People will farm points with sock-puppet npubs, so decide how you'll handle that early.
