When I launched the video + the forensics investigation https://1stbitcoinminer.com/ on the 24th of July they both got a lot of attention, and to be fair I was kinda expecting this because:
- It brought something new about Bitcoin. Can't remember last time this happened
- I spent a lot of resources on the cinematography, and I knew it will make it stand out
But I thought that after the initial ferver goes down, people won't care, and I did not even check the stats on the website.
Also, I have been working on a new project since August, and have not even been so active on X.
So I was very surprised when I checked today the stats today and saw this.
- Unique Visitors: 5.4k
- Page views: 7.22k
- Total visits: 6.51k
I think this is quite good, considering that this is a very technical and lengthy piece of writing.
But more importantly it shows that it has a life of it's own and more and more people keep going to the website each month.
A friend said I should allow companies(or who ever) to place a banner on the website for a fee, and initially I was like nah, but I changed my mind quickly.
Thing is for this project I put out the money out of my own pocket, and it took 1 full year of continuous work(for research + video), and never planed to recoup the spending, in fact if I would have had more money, I would have spent more. The singular goal was to do something great, not matter what it will cost/take.
But now I have another project, as big and spectacular in scope and as expense to produce, so any extra money I get will go in producing the video.
So, if you are interested in having your logo on https://1stbitcoinminer.com/ do reach out to me.

I'm curious if you have thought much about other avenues of presenting your research to the public (as well as monetizing it): do you think you'll make a separate website for your new project, along the same lines as 1stbitcoinminer, or try something new?
One domain for each project may be a great way to do things, but I wonder if it causes you to miss out on a little traffic to your other projects because they aren't also there (then again, what's the difference between a menu item that goes to another page on the same domain and one that goes to another domain you control?)
This is impressive, and it makes sense.
5.4k unique visitors a month for a long, technical piece is not small. It means people are not just clicking once and leaving. They are searching for it, sharing it, and coming back to it.
That is the difference between viral attention and lasting work. Viral fades in days. Good research keeps growing on its own.
The fact that you paid for it yourself and spent a full year on it makes it even stronger. You did not make it to sell ads. You made it because it needed to exist.
If you do take sponsors now, just keep it clean. One banner that fits the topic is fine. The trust you built is worth more than the ad money.
Good luck with the next project. If it is as big as this one, it will be worth the wait.
