With companies like lightning labs along with projects like sphinx and impervious constantly expanding what is possible on LN is this the beginning of the touted web 3.0.

Well, W3C doesn't think so. They say "We must instead firmly oppose such proof-of-work technologies", like Bitcoin.

Yeah saw DID guy in Twitter talking about it.
Yeah screw them, the FUD with proof of work is unfortunate, it hilarious that BTC is the only industry that catches flak for it's energy usage. Mainly because it doesn't hide it and can easily be measured.
