THE GREATEST ORANGE PILLING YOU’VE PROBABLY NEVER HEARD OF.
[Part 1]
What if I told you a band has been orange pilling millions of listeners... for nearly a decade... and nobody, not even Bitcoiners, have detected it?
And that this band has won a Grammy Award, recently announced a world tour in venues like Madison Square Garden, performed live with music icons like Metallica and Elton John, while also being dubbed the "torchbearers of rock 'n' roll."
Enter Greta Van Fleet.
Formed in 2012, Greta Van Fleet is an American rock band consisting of three brothers and their best friend. They burst onto the scene in 2017 as Apple Music's new artist of the week and quickly drew comparisons to Led Zeppelin and the vocals of Robert Plant. Their popularity has since skyrocketed, with over 250 million streams in 181 countries on Spotify alone as of last year.
So… How are they orange pilling?
The band is known for 'cryptic' lyrics that are riddled with metaphors, personification, and symbolic references - nothing new. Here's where things get interesting…
Since their first publicly released EP, Greta Van Fleet has been narrating a multi-album story about an orange 'Second Sun' rising over a new parallel world. Within this story, a 'peaceful army' battles against the 'gatekeepers' of the old world (under a green Sun) with the hope of ushering in the 'Age of Man'...
“A lot of [our music] is an analogy. There’s basically this parallel universe.” — Josh Kizska, lead singer.
Here's the kicker...
The story begins with the band proclaiming their love to this invisible thing called 'Electric gold'... sound familiar?
“Electric gold our love with tender care” — Flower Power, 2014
How do others interpret their music?
Fans, including myself, have been trying to interpret their lyrics and symbols - like the Second Sun - for years, but nothing seemed to completely make sense. Their music was encrypted, and nobody had found the key.
Bitcoin fixes this...
Through the lens of Bitcoin, every album, song, lyric, music video, visual, and anything else related to the band becomes crystal clear. Greta Van Fleet is orange pilling millions of people through rock 'n' roll.
So, their last album, The Battle at Garden's Gate, was released as I was listening to the Saylor Series as a new coiner in early 2021. Pretty quickly, I began to notice similarities between Saylor and the album.
“Is it just me or does it sound like @Gretavanfleet has been listening to @Breedlove and the #whatismoney podcast? Checkout the track list and lyrics.” — Tweet, 5/3/21
A couple of days later, as I was listening to the final track of the album, The Weight of Dreams (epic song), something caught my attention...
“All across the west we traveled wayward for To find the weight of dreams in gold Heaven sent us here to meet the hallowed shore To claim the wealth that we had sold”
I thought wait a minute, Heaven sent them here to do what? They continued…
“Gold mines melting men in the sunshine Spoiled wine tastes so sweet we have gone blind”
Gold mines? We’ve gone blind?… Are these guys Bitcoiners?
"You can still bathe in the river but it ran dry And all of us have turned away”
My world turned orange. Could Bitcoin be the key that unlocks Greta Van Fleet?! I flipped back to the track list and played the song titled 'Built By Nations.'
“When a man must walk the Devil's road Churning up the earth below He is bound to brothers built by nations With no pride to call his own”
Fiat is the "Devils road." Both songs made sense through the lens of Bitcoin. So I hit play on the next song, My Way, Soon.
“I've packed my bags and I've got my freedom I've sacked the rules so I don't have to heed them I'll bet on a chance if I've just got one I'll throw out the plans and live with no burden”
That made sense through Bitcoin too! Was every song related to Bitcoin?? I continued to ‘Stardust Chords.’
“Prisoners of the king Are promised their freedom for Planting a score Of infantry vines
From the bowing earth Uprises the weeds of war Caving the floor A renaissance born, whoa”
Whoa. Then I got to ‘Age of Machine’ (Age of The State)… this one solidified things for me…
(My interpretations)
“Perfect child (Bitcoin personified) Plugged in since the womb (January 3rd, 2009) Prophet of the Dune (The orange planet) In this electric tomb (electric vault… the blockchain)
Man has made (Satoshi) An omnipresent force (everywhere and always) Heading on a course For interstellar shores
God machine (Fiat, petrodollars, the state, etc) Malfunctioned as it grew And the circuits blew Falling down on you
Now you're free Unplug from the source (🟠) No more underscores Open up the doors
Feeling [chant] Oh God, the feeling We need some healing We need some healing God knows if you feel defeated You have been cheated You are retreated”
Now you're free. Unplug from the source. You have been cheated... Now imagine thousands of fans chanting these lyrics as orange light beams from the stage, and these guys rip guitar solos behind their heads… Oh God, the feeling!
One more thing about Age of Machine...
The band LITERALLY TAKES ORANGE PILLS in the music video to free themselves from God Machine. The video is pure Bitcoin vs Fiat/Petrodollars, electric vs oil, freedom vs indoctrination, the destruction of man, and much more. Have a look for yourself...
Next, I played the opening track of the album titled Heat Above, which refers to the Second Sun (a symbol of Bitcoin and the logos of GVF). This was the most viewed rock video of 2021.
“Can you feel my love Rising with the heat above (Second Sun) Life's the story of Ascending to the stars as one
We do not fight for war But to save the lives of those who do so”
Beautiful. Then I played 'Light My Love,' which also refers to the Second Sun and poetically describes the time chain."
“Can you light my love? Flames glow as bright as the sun Deeper than oceans you run Watch as our world has begun
I have seen pictures of time (timechain) The frames still in motion I find A grand revolution outlined Hate bound by fear will unwind”
After that, I turned up 'Caravel,' which was one of the ships used to discover the New World of the Americas... Hold on for dear life!
“Crash against wave upon wave, whoa-oh (hodl) To strange horizons, ooh Heel to the mist and the wind, yeah-yeah You wake the movement, ooh
Whoa, as you can tell This was the age of the caravel (Bitcoin) Whoa, as you can tell These are the times you'll remember well
Sail to the end of the world, whoa-oh For death or glory, ooh Bow with your face to the sky, yeah-yeah We are a movement, ooh”
A true HODL song!
Next up, I played The Barbarians, which is directed at the God Machine protecting itself with young innocence. This track has one of many connections to Rage Against the Machine, which can be found on this album. Check out the lyrics to Renegades of Funk by RATM below for a greater context of this song and GVF's overall message.
“Mothers of barbarians Were your young so spry when they left to die? We are
Are we prisoners or renegades? Well, I've done my time Behold visions of burning skies Alas, Babylon”
GVF indicates they are renegades. Here’s Renegades of Funk:
“No matter how hard you try, you can't stop us now
We are the force of another creation A new musical revelation And we're on this musical mission to help the others listen (GVF) And groove from land to land singin' electronic chants like
Zulu nation Revelations Destroy our nations Destroy our nations
Now renegades are the people with their own philosophies They change the course of history Everyday people like you and me”
The album has numerous connections to Rage Against the Machine, particularly their album The Battle of Los Angeles. In summary, GVF conveys a similar message to RATM, but with a much different tone. I will dive into this further another time...
Next, I played ‘Tears of Rain,’ a song that cries out for environmental change…
“Drifting through the plains before us As it turns to dust before our eyes Pleading for a God to pour us (God Machine) Just a little bit of rain from an empty sky
Who will bring the rain? Oh Who will bring the rain? Hey Who will bring the rain?”
Then I played Broken Bells. Text does not do these lyrics justice. Our time is coming…
“And I believe there comes a time When out of silence we will sing And even broken bells will ring Not all the answers are the same Yet we still play thе game” (Fiat)
And finally, I arrived at the second-to-last song of the album, ‘Trip the Light Fantastic.’ It's a spiritual journey with Sanskrit mantras.
“Rhythm of space (Tick, tock) Expansion of soul A force beyond control (Bitcoin) Travelers in time searching for The unknown
Ram, ram, ram, ram, ram, ram Ram, ram, ram, ram, ram, ram
To comet across the blistering hue Beyond the spaces of false and true Away from a world we have riddled with scars To be wholly free and amongst the stars”
Ram mantra is the royal road to attain spiritual perfection. It helps man overcome all fears and troubles in life. Ram mantra is a very big uniting factor. It leads to harmony and peace and promotes cooperation among family members, friends and the people in the society… Ram mantra also helps overcome debts and attain financial stability in the household…
Ram, ram, ram, ram, ram, ram Ram, ram, ram, ram, ram, ram
What I find fascinating about this album/band is that they seem to produce comparable spiritual effects to those of Bitcoin. Fans are reporting feelings of hope and personal transformations for the better. What's also interesting is that the band's fastest-growing fan demographic is, by far, young women (aged 16-25), who are presumably on the opposite end of the political spectrum from many Bitcoiners. I believe this demonstrates a few things. First, that the idea of Bitcoin is resonating with people who are generally opposed to it and have been slow to adopt. Second, it highlights the power of music and its ability to spread ideas to a diverse audience on a global scale. Lastly, GVF demonstrates music's potential to heal divides and unify around a common idea.
“Feeling Oh God, the feeling We need some healing”
That concludes the introduction to The Battle at Garden’s Gate. However, keep in mind that this is just scratching the surface of the album, and there are still two more to uncover. I highly recommend listening to the full album in order with the lyrics and forming your own interpretations. Join me down the deep and mind-opening rabbit hole that is Greta Van Fleet.
