Read about it in 2014 on Slashdot, mostly fud stuff..2016 came along, and I was in India, which was going through a major demonetization, and about 80% of cash is not usable anymore.
Something clicked while standing in mile-long bank queues to exchange my own money. The feeling of being hostage to a 3rd world state kept screaming at me. A friend invited me to a Bitcoin meetup, and it was during the blocksize wars. This was in India, and there were bankers in the audience who asked some interesting questions.
I realized Bitcoin was the citadel to fiat debasement/control. Read the white paper and bought some on LocalBitcoins. 2017 bull market comes along and I read more about it. Read Nick Szabo's essays and then at some time read the Bitcoin standard by Saiffuddin.
It wasn't a walk in the park. My Bitcoin mentor, the person I respected for knowing their shit got a job with consensys and became a shitcoiner who also advised me to exit my positions, I did not. It was beyond conviction at that point.
If you ask me, I still do not know shit. Bitcoin forces me to wake up everyday and read the society we live in. Understand deeper layers of civilization, one of which is obviously money, why nation-states behave they way they do, what is banking, what is the psychology of spending/high time preference based consumerism.
So I am just getting started and there is no balancing...
Cool journey, thanks for sharing!
