So I flew into Texas yesterday to start my first Bitcoin mining job tomorrow. I'm really excited, but I'm trying to think about the long-term... and I've been thinking about it a lot, and I'm not sure where to really go from here (assuming this job works out, and I can get some real experience and knowledge gained from it).
I'm curious what suggestions, ideas, or recommendations anyone may have. I've got years of work experience from music to higher education administration, a degree in economics, and a few IT certifications (however no professional experience). I've also setup and run several websites, including Cryptonaut.
Would love to know what anyone else thinks.
If you haven't even had your first day, I wouldn't focused on what's next. Focus on being excellent at your new job and the next thing will become apparent when it comes to you.

Welcome to Texas!
It’s hard to give advice without more information. But you’ll know what to do next when you see it so long as you’re looking.

Congrats on the Bitcoin job! Give it a frickin chance. 😅

My recommendation is that you take very seriously your ear protection each time you go anywhere near those machines.

Exactly what is your job description? Not sure what kind of suggestions you are looking for.

So I actually didn't know until today. But it's really construction at this point; shucking S19's out of boxes, racking, cabling, wiring, etc. My question is really suggestions on what to look for or how to move up from here. Maybe there is a strategy, a common pathway (lol, I know) or I don't know, just anything really. I'm very new to this but eager to learn and develop a meaningful career in the space.

Ok thats great! Not sure if good practice guidelines are developed for your job position but I can tell from experience some issues we got. Torquing should be your best friend. IMHO miners should´t bring power cords, they should be hardwired to avoid issues that can rapidly become fire hazards.
Most recent issues we had were related to loose screws on DC busbar connecting PSU with hashboards. This needs to be doublechecked. Also I would recommend taking PSU out before powering up and controlling if the PSU is not shorted.
There is not much data center best practice being adopted in the mining data center industry. Quick and dirty and lots of silver-taping. I would suggest to look for best practice on structured cabling and assume infrastructure installations and equipment needs to be designed to accommodate future mining equipment generations. Air segregation is important, avoid at all cost hot air shortcircuits an bypass, take close attention on powered off miners sitting idle, they are hot air short circuit material.

I suggest prioritising your new job and the onboarding process, as the previous comment recommended. The other aspects will fall into place afterwards.
