If Ark does what it says it will, then I think the privacy benefit would be massive
reply
You're gonna have to redo this poll when Ark actually has some code. You know its still pretty new and people are still trying to wrap their heads around exactly what it is and what it does and what it isn't and what the trade offs are going to be.

Every time we have a small issue, let's remake the entire world from scratch, destroying everything was already built...
reply
I mean I'm interested in it, I want to see where it goes and how it goes, but I'm going to continue using the lightning network at least until this thing is developed and then I'm going to try it out and see how well it works. Who knows, maybe all Ark ends up being good for is using ASPs to payjoin batch open channels on lightning lol.

Nowadays, many devs are not getting together how to have 100% interoperability between LN implementations and other solutions (aka bolt12 and eltoo) and you think that ark will fix magically all problems?
Ark is just a dream rn. Maybe in 10 years will be ready, but until then LN will be waaaaay ahead and massively adopted. Will be perfect? Don't know, but at least is working in the right direction.
As I said, we don't have to remake the whole world from scratch just because we have a small issue (that actually can be fixed, just by putting together devs and talk and let the egos away).
Burak is just adding a new debate and move attention from the real problems.
reply
No I don't. I don't think it'll magically fix a bunch of problems. Its on my radar and I'm waiting to see what it does do.
You know eltoo needs a softfork.
reply
I don't care if it needs a softfork or hardfork. I just want to be implemented so we can move on.
reply
Statechains is live with www.mercurywallet.com and therefore somewhat proven. Just needs AnyPrevout to allow for more use-cases...
reply
There's no second best... Just implement eltoo on LN and many issues will be solved.

Have you seen the proposal for LN hierarchical channels? It will enable channel factories with resizable liquidity without a soft-fork. There's an explanation here: https://bitcoinops.org/en/newsletters/2023/03/29/
IMO I'm not a fan of LN-symmetry (one of the main channel constructions proposed over eltoo) because it does away with the penalty transaction. I feel that the penalty transaction is a big part of LN's security; my channel partner won't risk publishing an outdated state even if I'm offline because there might be a watchtower or I could come back. Whereas with LN-symmetry my channel partner might opportunistically try, since they don't stand to lose anything (except some on-chain fees)

That's point!

Lets just use Bitcoin in place of Dollars and call it a day. I mean my bank account is now in BTC my credit card is in BTC prices are in sats. Lets just do that and call it a day. The legacy system will be bitcoins "second layer"
reply
Lightning over Liquid might be an interesting scaling solution and should be totally doable today.
But: Where can I find channel partners? Is there any node explorer?
reply
LIQUID: For faster transaction and strong confidentiality. If new development increase the speed of transactions, then the lesser the transaction fees.

here's a writeup for ARK for those who don't know (I didn't):
(it's a pain to find info because there isn't very much about it, as opposed to Ark Investments and the shitcoin called ARK)
reply
All the above

I don't think anything yet devised is trustless enough. Fedi is doing a lot of PR, and it's a "trust-able"-ish system for small communities, but it clearly can't be the next "layer" in broad bitcoin adoption.
reply
Making onchain TX more efficient would be my priority
reply
I'm withholding judgement on Ark for now, even though it seems promising.
In the meantime, I'm voting for Fedimint. It seems simple to understand and onboard new users. It feels right.
reply
I think I'm opting for Ark for now, although Fedi also gives me good vibes, but I vote for Ark
reply
I'll go with drivechains on this one. Ark seems to have similar downsides in that it needs a soft-fork to function as intended. So might as well go with the more flexible option.

To onboard the planet I say all! And May the best solution win!
