@k00b I like these original ads posts from bitcoin companies promoting their products directly to SN users. Maybe we could create a sub for them (mainly to not be lost in the history) or somehow pinned to daily?

I would like to see more merchants also making quick ads like this one, special offers for SN.

I hope will remain like that with "Bitcoin only" products and not seeing bullshit crap of shitcoineries.

reply

There aren't really a lot of these that pop up on SN yet.

But maybe if we create a space for them more of them will come.

reply

I agree that fun discount ads like this are ok even for me - and I truly hate ads. Hopefully it jumpstarts the market of "desirables" and "undesirables". For doing desirable things you should get rewarded sats, for doing undesirable things you could be charged sats.

If someone posts and ad, as a viewer of the ad I would like to get rewarded for viewing it (or interacting with it?). If I don't want to see ads, I could pay SN couple extra sats. E.g. 1000 sats per week.

Either way, this is exciting to see.

reply

We want to see new small merchants also to promote their products/shops that start accepting BTC. SN could be the best way to have a 1st promotion. Maybe that way we can even help them with advice, solutions etc.

Have a dedicated sub for merchant promotions. What is the use of getting some sats on SN if users will not spend them with BTC merchants?

Create that damn Bitcoin circular economy once and for all.

reply

I 100% agree with this and it may be the most important sub to do at this point.

I had this epiphany recently after visiting multiple cities/towns that were supposed to have quite high Bitcoin usage, but... no one actually uses it to pay. Even bitcoiners don't pay with bitcoin. If you don't want to have less bitcoin, then "Pay-and-replace", but bloody use the bitcoin!

So to every bitcoiner: Any time you travel to a new city - GO VISIT PLACES THAT ACCEPT BITCOIN!

reply

at least install btcmap.org app on your device and consult it when you are in a new place.

reply

It's on my phone and it should be on everyones'! One thing I noticed is that the local communities had their own map layers that had more businesses in them and the information was not propagated to btcmap.org. So I just joined a group to do more verifications, and syncing across the map layers.

Zaps, boosting & sending sats directly changes everything.โšก๏ธ

It's about not to lose them, not about isolate them.

Thanks @blockstream_official. With all of the shenanigans about Ledger trying to destroy their business (I know a few people who are jumping ship because of the 'Recovery' thing), it is worth remembering there are great Bitcoin-only products out there like the Jade!

BIP85 (written by ME :) )

I guess the big value prop is that people may have more than just "one cold storage wallet", whether it is a hot wallet on a phone, a second or third cold storage system, etc.

The BIP85 recovery phrase is the master seed phrase that all the others seed phrases can be made from. This means you no longer need to rely on the entropy and seed generation of the various wallets you are using.

Every wallet you ever use can be generated from this master seed, improving security and seed management. Individual seeds are not linked to each other and can be reproduced deterministically! In the worst case, you can reproduce a given seedphrase from the master seed!

That is all I have got :)

reply

P.S. I hope this is good enough to win a Jade please. ๐Ÿ’š

reply

BIP-85 reveals the super power of the master public key: it can now reproduce itself and give birth to a happy family of additional public keys! ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ”‘

reply

BIP85 enables you create several independent BIP39 mnemonic seed words (private keys) for several Bitcoin wallets from a single, primary mnemonic seed words (private key).

All you will have to do is remember the primary mnemonic seed words AND the index numbers for each derived mnemonic seed words.

The derived mnemonic seed words are completely isolated. These derived seed words can therefore be used for testing wallet software, etc.

Great also for setting up younger ones, or spouse, or parents with a bitcoin wallet.

Blockstream's Child Recovery Phrase allows you do the following:

  1. Choose an index number based off your BIP39 mnemonic seed word (private keys)
  2. Choose mnemonic seed word length.
  3. Blockstream Jade would then show you your new derived recovery phrase (independent mnemonic seed words).
reply

Its actually a derived recovery phrase for your main recovery phrase its like you gather some coins from your home to your pocket Also it illiminate the risk of your main wallet seed been stolen

Just guessing - try uppercase?

reply

No, is not about the word. Its more about the discount.

Still not working

I know this thread is for something else but I have a question regarding Jade: Does Jade have properly implemented USB C port? I see you provide USB C to USB A cable, this is often a bad sign in the world of consumer electronics meaning a device has a USB C port but it only works with A to C cables (missing required pull down resistors in USB C port assembly). Can you confirm it charges with C2C cables? (yes I know, I need to have my own cable)

reply

@blockstream_official

<OP will surely deliver meme>

reply

Yep Jade works with C2C cables!

From a single seed phrase, BIP85 can be used to derive seed phrases to "child" wallets. You can use these child wallets in different contexts (ex. mobile hot wallet, starter wallet for spouse/mom/dad/whoever). If the seed phrases to a derived child wallet were compromised, the original seed phrase would still be secure.

Instead of needing to maintain and backup multiple seeds for different wallets, you can back up one seed phrase that gives you access to multiple derived wallets

reply

After some reasearchs:

BIP-85 is a standard for public-key cryptography, also known as elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) that was developed in 1995

Anyway the BIP-85 defines a mechanism for generating a public/private key pair using a deterministic algorithm that works by taking a password as input and repeatedly hashing it with a SHA-1 hash function (The number of iterations can be specified and should be high for more security) The resulting hashes are used as the private key and a fixed-size salt value is added to each hash to ensure that two different passwords produce the same private key
