To be honest, I have no evidence - just a feeling:
With all the new blockchains coming out and people having more "control" of what they're doing compared to when BTC saw the light of day.
Personally I briefly looked into BTC in 2009. I don't remember if I bought or mined any or not. If I did, then those are definitely lost to me.
With the focus on blockchain the past years I have a hard time thinking that can or will happen in the same fashion it (probably) did back then.
