Yes, essentially. The chip would integrate directly into the silicon of the photovoltaic cells. The result would be raw solar energy being converted into hashes with minimum energy loss. Although, there is much engineering that needs to be done, like power management and the hashing chip's ability to work with fluctuations in current, etc. It's basically taking the process of hashing bits as close to the actual energy source possible.

I think heat output would be distinct limiting factor. Components would be generating the most heat when in direct sunlight, so there would probably have to be cooling. Could be looped to residential cold water, but what about mobile locations, active cooling
