Can the Ledger be trusted? I have to trust. That worries me. Thinking about switching to Electrum (OS Tails). But I have my doubts, too.
Don't update the ledger & it should be fine
When you have some spear money, buy another hardware wallet like jade or cold card. Then import the seed into the new one
reply
no, the point of switching hardware would be to generate a new seed and move the funds over to the new wallet.
(operating under the assumption that the ledger code was comprised already and the company knows your seed.)

Tails OS is a good solution if you follow these guidelines:
  • Verify the Tails OS image with GPG
  • Use on a computer that is not connected to the internet (preferably an old computer that you never plan to connect to the internet again)
You will create the wallet on the offline computer with tails and then export its xpub to an online computer so that you have a watch only wallet to get transaction history.

I switched it last year and have slept like a baby ever since:)
What're your doubts?

You can use another hardware wallet. Bitbox02 for example.

I would migrate the BTCs form the Ledger to another hardware wallet like Jade and live the altcoins behind
