Most sites make money by providing ads, nonio makes money by taking $1 of your subscription to run the servers. Anything over that is split evenly between everything you upvote that month. Nonio's objective is to take just enough to run servers, and to provide a way for creators to be rewarded for their content, all while providing a high-quality ad-free service.

I use tags instead of subreddits, i.e. https://non.io/#dog

atm I believe you can have the best of both tags and subs by making it easy/permissible to cross-post ... and allowing subs to have subs to have subs.
