It is still in beta so installing it on IOS requires testflight, and on Android messages don't appear automatically. In other words it doesn't look like a communication channel to pull messages is opened. In IOS this was working OK. But it looks interesting, will try it next time. Also it would require more translations (you may say, then just do it, I would reply yes I will, if I use it with friends). If the pull functionality for messages doesn't work well on Android though, Simplex might just be better.

Just downloaded it but it’s hard to get started as you already need a network

Definitely try it, the app is end2end encrypted. Just consider that:
  1. you need to sign up with phone number and
  2. allow access to your contacts (as is just a P2P app, not an exchange)
Now it has a great spread in Eastern EU but soon available globally. I believe it's just a question of adoption and buy/sell offers available on specific areas.
Great design, simple UX... just post your offer and hopefully someone in your known network will take it
