Maybe it's just the smaller size of the platform, but when starting from zero, you have far greater reach here than you do on traditional social media platforms.
I had forgotten that this was one of the reasons why I liked HN and reddit like platforms. The playing field is more level. Thanks for reminding me!
I forgot because I began to get more popular on other platforms and they ceased being lonely and unrewarding. So this "feature" that's otherwise positive probably keeps people with big followings away.
Maybe there's a way to strike a balance. Something to consider as we continue to improve the site.
There was a nice article that I linked to in one of my comments about how the rate of growth is important. Too fast and you alienate the locals, too slow and you stagnate.
