Given that debit and credit cards already comply with KYC, AML and track our payments, does adding Chainalysis affect your decision?

  1. Yes, I would use a Bitcoin company app with Chainalysis. I appreciate the increased security and oversight.
  2. No, I would not use a Bitcoin company app with Chainalysis. I prefer more privacy.
  3. I don't know enough about Chainalysis to decide.
  4. I am indifferent as long as the app provides the services I need.

Andy Greenberg's Tracers in the Dark goes in depth into Chainalysis's history and known affiliation with law enforcement and government entities, both of which make up a good chunk of the company's customers.

Would I use an app tied to Chainalysis? Absolutely not.

how would you even know?

chainanalysis is inevitable, don't worry about it, just take the necessary steps to wipe your history and use lightning where possible

reply

Chainalysis is not inevitable and just using lightning doesn't solve the problem.

reply

you can't stop chain analysis and there will always be demand for it, so I don't see how it isn't inevitable - the best we can do is make it hard and hopefully impossible to perform.

Just using lightning doesn't solve the problem, agreed, but the privacy benefits (especially as a sender) are significant

reply

Chainalysis gonna chainalysis anyway

Hopefully we can get better technology in the next few years

reply

The correct name is ChainAnal btw. Chainanalysis is just the PG-13 approved name.

If enough people refuse to do business with companies that use these scum bags a market for privacy focused commerce with arise. I'd argue it already has.

reply
