Portugal is high up on my bucket list...have heard nothing but great things.
Brazil seems awesome too. Granted I dont have a connection like you, but would still love to get there/south america in general

that's really just a problem if you live there. you can go there and have a great time, then leave again Portugal is awesome

I haven't travelled much so grain of salt. Canada, Mexico, Spain, Switzerland round out all my travels.
tbh most places are great because they have people and you can always find good people. I usually just want to read, eat, and measure my ignorance somewhere pretty when I travel. So I'd guess it depends on what you're into.
