I thought it was some confusing jargon I had no time to entertain...then I woke up years later
Pointless Digital geek "money". Ultra niche, No value, why bother. Too volatile, won't last. Worse than my decision to put red streaks in my hair as a teenager to impress my hairdresser. Everybody gets into BTC when they deserve to, I didn't for a long time

I attempted to CPU mine, didn't get anything after leaving it overnight. I told my buddy about it and how people had been excited because you couldn't make more of it. We both didn't really understand or care about why that was important at the time. This was within the first two or three years of Bitcoins lifespan.
It was such a brief moment. I doubt my buddy would remember at all. I didn't even remember until after some time had passed and Bitcoin became hard to ignore. You can try to ignore it but eventually you just cant.

iirc I was building my first attempt at a startup out of college and saw an article on HN. "Dude some guy made this digital money and it's anonymous and people are buying drugs with it online."

I took a break from the online anarchist scene around the time it was invented and it took way too long for me to otherwise spend time understanding it.
