So many times now, I've seen a particular page on Twitter shaming others for reporting their orange-pill successes because: "REEEEEEEEEEEEEE iTs NoT a CuStOdY wAlLeT tHeYrE gOnNa GeT rUgGeD"
First off (assuming these are in fact real stories), it's day one for all of these people. There is NO WAY they're ready to commit and take responsibility for self-custody on DAY ONE, let alone understand what it is and why it's important. It's just not going to happen, and it's foolish and naïve to think otherwise. Furthermore, it's likely turn them off and away. Why? Because NO ONE alive today has grown up on hard money; everyone has grown up on fiat. And one of the benefits of fiat (which I hate to even say) is the relative lack of responsibility for the end user. Sad, but true; and possibly one of the reasons why fiat has been so pervasive.
Secondly: we're in a transition period b/w sovereign finance and fiat. It's going to be tough, arduous, and messy. People are going to come to the understanding in an infinite number of ways, paths, and for an infinite myriad of reasons (and some won't, ever!). Take me for example: I mined Ethereum for a couple years, and even I wasn't ready for self-custody until a year and half! Thank God I did, eventually. But I had to come to that understanding and reasoning on my own. It most CERTAINLY wasn't going to happen on day mother f@$#%ing one.
I just feel like this shaming and REEEEEEEEE'ing does FAR more damage to the movement than any LN custody wallet ever could. It also tragically misses the opportunity to develop a long-term relationship with someone to check-in regularly, offer guidance and encouragement to become more financially sovereign and independent.
Orange-pilling is not an event, it's a process.
Over and out.
