I'm really disappointed by the HDD/SSD storage industry: About 7 years ago I bought a portable HDD with 4tb for roughly 100€. Currently I could buy a 5tb portable HDD for 100€. Granted, it's a few Euros less, the currency is worth less now and it's a terrabyte more.
But at previous speeds we would have easily been at 16tb by now. Storage just doubled and doubled and prices just halved and halved until they revently just stopped. Why.
Other options are 3'5'' Disks but they need an additional electricity plug - that's a low bar I know. There are 16tb for roughly 300€. There are portable SSDs that are bigger e.g. 8tb for around 400€. (currency conversions: 100€=377k Sats, 300€=1.1m Sats, 400m = 1.5m Sats)
Am I the only one who cares? Does the industry not move forward because consumers don't demand it? Have we as humanity reached peak portable storage?
