We just deployed a gang of subtle changes. There are likely subtle bugs and the site might be wonky for a bit. Please report any issues!
As the week goes on, we'll be following up this release with some exciting stuff @ekzyis has been working on.
Most of the changes in this release are house cleaning things, but the ones you might care about:
  1. search has compact summaries
    • before we displayed the full item text ... now we just show relevant highlights matching the query (ie it's nothing like google but it's more like google)
  2. if you view the "items" tab on user profiles, you can rank and filter a user's items similar to the way you can with 'top'
    • user profiles are still ugly but they should be more useful
  3. satistics got a glowup
    • the table should now fit on the page and not require horizontal scrolling
  4. no more numbering next to stories
    • this is in anticipation of personalized feeds where there is no absolute scoring
    • it also should make things less horizontally scrunched on mobile
  5. a few ergonomic things
    • a larger zap bolt (harder to misclick on mobile)
    • more spacing between story titles and links
Anyway, there's a lot of small things like that, many not worth listing. (I've already noticed a few small bugs too.) After deploying ek's work I'll be focused on personalized feeds in anticipation of implementing user generated subs.
Did you change the font or the way the text is rendered? looks slightly different.
reply
Thank you! Good work. Price looks different at the top too

love it!
โ€ฆ but what is the dragonโ€™s tail and why are you tickling it?
reply
Even though I have dark mode on, the screen flashes bright when reloading. Old version didn't do that. On CalyxOS, Chromium.
reply
I'm pushing a change right now that I hope fixes it. It's been bothering me too.
reply
My push didn't work. I'll try something else.
reply
On profiles now, there is no division between posts or submissions, its number of items and when you click it has a long unsorted list.
reply
But you can sort and filter it by any metric you want
reply
oh i see, cool

I got logged out of the pwa shortly after midnight last night and still getting 500 errors on my phone.
I also don't like the font on desktop chrome, has that changed?
reply
We upgraded bootstrap. I'll look into the font thing.

Super pumped to see what's next.
This probably isn't the right place to ask, but: how scalable is the SN architecture? I don't understand what's going on behind the scenes w/ LN well enough to have much insight, but if there were 10x the current users, would this be a giant engineering problem to solve on the LN side, or would it scale the way similar sites do?
reply
It will scale like any centralized website - horizontally with separation between data and data serving layers. The lightning stuff can scale horizontally too. Several companies do this already.
ie We can scale to another 100x with mostly configuration changes (not saying it'd be painless but relatively).
reply
SN has always had great lightning support and super low fees.
reply
I'm not talking about scaling the lightning network itself, but serving pages to users with whatever lightning integrations are required to support the site's functionality. A bunch of back-end magic going on that I don't have a good sense of.
reply
I mean the lightning node SN runs
