In Germany if the police catch you drunk on one of those e-scooters, they will take away your driving license on the spot and fine you thousands of euros.

You'll then have to pay and addition 600 euros over the course of a year to take random alcohol tests and prove that you haven't drunk anything for the whole year. Oh, and you have to pay for some sort of "physiological analysis/therapy", if i understood it right. Sounds humiliating.

Only after that year has passed will they let you retake your driving test, which will cost you many more thousands of euros.

This seems draconian to me. It's a fucking scooter, what are you gunna do on it? crash into a tree or KO yourself, maybe. Hardly comparable to drink driving.
