I actually see the opposite happening, people just re-implementing old governance models on blockchains--which is great, but doesn't fit this "decentralization" terminology very well. It's not that there is no governance, it's just that there is now a free market for it--there's actually MORE governance. E.G. A "consensus model" is just a governance model, you can't have a "decentralized" platform without a "consensus" model, so it's sort of an oxymoron.
I suspect we see people with a lot of Bitcoin start to federate and experiment with different governance models for scaling out Bitcoin (this is what people usually call Layer-2 or sidechains, imo).
