There are a lot of great tools available for managing open source software on your own server, but they all require an ease with the command-line, the ability to work out problems when they arise, figuring out backups, and how to harden your server against internet threats.
With Federated Computer you can use Open Source software without the need to be a system admin. If that bugs you, sorry. Lot's of people have better things to do in life than learn how to run and manage a server. For $39 a month per domain USD/BTC (that's 136,734 sats today) you get a private server (automatically managed by Federated), Nextcloud, Collabora, Jitsi, Element, Matrix, email server setup up for your domain, all the spam and blacklist protection built in, Listmonk, Vaultwarden, Baserow, Wireguard (configured for teams), Gitea (with pipelines to Caddy for publishing static websites), Castopod, Wordpress, and system wide user management. Backups are included. Human support is included. Federated Computer provides the convenience of SaaS with the freedom and flexibilty of open source.
If you have stacked 50,000 sats on Stacker News, we'll give you free service for 12 months. No cost.

Nice service, however, where is the information on transfer rate, and hard dive space. What's detailed for the $39?
reply
I wish I was eligible for the trial! Will keep stacking! Is it using something like https://casaos.io?

$39 /mo. :( That's huge here, I can have food for 2 weeks with this money! Why should I buy their services...?! 🤔 🙈 Instead of buy, I say bye bye :))

Say bye bye to these ads in general: #227410

Yes. use serverless, cloud functions, etc. We have Ads now?

You can block ads with this: #227410

It would be cool if I can pay some sats to not see ads... And maybe that amount could be variable? Creating attention economy with less distortion...

We'll eventually let you opt-out for free.

the same ad again?
reply
Yes, this is an ad experiment being run by Stacker News.
For one month, Federated Computer will be the exclusive advertiser on the @ad account, though you may see modifications to the copy periodically.
Also worth noting, Federated Computer's ad budget goes directly to the Stacker News daily rewards pool every day, and currently represents a large majority of all daily rewards.
reply
eh I rarely get rewards. not popular enough.
reply
The reward system changed roughly a week ago.
Have you seen a change in rewards in the past couple of days?
reply
nope. last time i got any site rewards was jun 21. before that was in april.
reply
Rewards only go to zappers currently. So if you aren't zapping you won't get rewards.
reply
I zap, but not as freely as many others.
reply
Fair! Zapper only rewards is just an experiment so hopefully we’ll run a future experiment where your behaviors are rewarded too.
Yesterday the rewards pool paid 184,412 sats to all the best zappers on Stacker News.
The rewards algorithm as it stands today rewards zapping good content (early zaps and large zaps benefit more), though we plan to run more experiments in the coming weeks.
