IMO, it is very important, a chip in your device that is not an SE can bring coded on it, any type of malware the manufacturer decided to put it. That is not a risk I will advise no one to take.
Check the web for more information, there are many cyber security experts that have wrote extensively and perform podcasts about the dangers of non using a Chip SE on a Seed Signer.
I would love to know some more on this, I haven't been able to find these articles, specifically about the security flaws of the SeedSigner device (https://github.com/SeedSigner/seedsigner) in relation to not having a Secure Element chip . Specifically since the Secure Element chip is designed to store the "secure element" (in other words, the seed). And this is something which SeedSigner does not do. It is a stateless device.
