Sunday Funday so it's poll day.
We have seen a couple integrations of bitcoin with sports teams (Real Bedford, The Perth Heat, Bitcoin Racing Team. Sorry if I am missing any). I do think Bitcoin the brand can be a great point of leverage for some of these small, more obscure teams and leagues. I hope to see more of this grassroots Bitcoin and Sports collision.
When do you think we see a serious Bitcoin integration with a major sports team? (Doesn't have to be full bitcoin standard, but also not just some cursory marketing gimmick like accepting bitcoin and dogecoin for merch or whatever Cuban did).

I'm not sure you will ever see major sports integration until Visa/Mastercard etc end their league involvements and sponsorship.
@grayruby - have a thought for another discussion sometime that I thought about while driving. Was looking at how to DM you the idea directly, but couldnt so I'll just comment here.
Some of Baseball's would be all time greats and legends are now mired in scandal due to the rampant steroid use in the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s. Guys like Palmeiro/Bonds/Clemens/ARod/ and more, would have been first ballot hall of famers but are still waiting to see if they will ever be inducted. Occasionally, in other sports you will hear about players busted for PEDs, but its never seems to be presented as a systemic issue in other leagues like it was in baseball. I refuse to believe players in the 80s and 90s in the NBA or NFL didn't juice just as much.
So my questions for others are 1) why did all the heat come down on baseball only and not spread to examinations in other leagues (or am I just remembering incorrectly and it did). and 2) in other major sports (NBA/NFL/NHL) do you think any other legends of the game were juicing and why, and why didn't allegations hurt their hall of fame candidacy the way it does in MLB?

Post it my friend. If you don't want to post it under Stacker sports- meta takeover because that's my gig then just label it something else Stacker Sports- Community discussion or Stacker Sports- Weekly Discussion. I don't know, whatever you like.

We could start a new TV channel, the “Bitcoin News Network (BNN). Obviously we’d want this to be a wholly owned subsidiary of Stacker News, then we could buy the rights to various sporting events and sponsor professional teams and athletes. I think there’d be more than enough content to fill a 24-hour programming lineup

Oddly enough we have a BNN in Canada. Business News Network. It's owned by Bloomberg. Kind of lame to be honest.
A Bitcoin version of CNBC would be great. Could operate on top of a streaming service built on Nostr. Maybe one day.

I'm not sure we'll ever really see it. Because it's not really one organisation out there sponsoring teams.
I think I've seen tezos in F1 and maybe on some football (soccer) teams shirts. But that's an organisation that is sponsoring those teams.
I think bitcoins decentralised nature is why we may not see it on teams shirts or on the sides of cars. (If it's already there... Apologies, I just haven't spotted it). Who decides what team bitcoin sponsors?
reply
I don't necessarily mean sponsor a team or put a bitcoin logo on the jersey but the team could integrate bitcoin in their operations. Sell tickets, merch and concessions for bitcoin, allow players to take part of salaries in bitcoin, offer bitcoin rewards for fanclub members etc.

Ah that angle. Yeah. For me it's the chicken and the egg when it comes to adoption. If the clients don't want to pay with BTC then the vendor isn't going to provide that capability. But they will once their customers all start asking to pay with BTC.
Didn't Brady take some salary in BTC? OBJ took a contract in BTC. Russel Okung the Olineman from the panthers took pay in BTC. I think Trevor Lawrence may have done so aswell. So we are starting to see athletes do it.
reply
Yes definitely have seen some athletes request it. Russ is the man. Have you seen how fit he is looking now that he has retired. One of the things I would like to do with Stacker Sports when we get our own sub is try to get Russ on for an AMA.
reply
Nah I have a hard enough time keeping up with current players to keep up with retired guys.
Speaking of own sub... Do we intend on dropping a SN fantasy league. Not just survivor pool. But full blown superflex + IDP league.
reply
Probably not for this season but hopefully we can do that in the future. Once we have our own sub the possibilities will be endless. Haha.
reply
Getting the NHL, NBA and MLB fans involved aswell... Theres gunna be multiple SN fantasy leagues across multiple sports and it's going to be glorious.
Soon it'll go from Stacker Sports meta take over to worldwide take over.
reply
I suspect major teams will become involved when they are competing with previously minor teams with strong BTC connections (fans, financing & sponsorship). I don’t have any other insight I’m afraid.
reply
Seems to be a fair assessment to me.
reply
I think there may be a better chance at a major league's Players Association getting involved

Interesting.
