I can't take credit for that one. I heard the Rich Dad Poor Dad guy call California the Communist Republic of California so I just applied it to Canada.
Canada is really nice. I like living here. I don't even mind that the majority of people are more liberal and collectivist than I am. But since trudeau got elected the country has turned much more authoritarian with Trudeau lecturing other nations on democracy meanwhile he censors his citizens, shuts down their bank accounts, labels everyone a racist and every other ist in the book if they disagree with him. The scariest part for me is most of the population agrees with his tactics. Only now he is becoming unpopular but mostly because of inflation and the economy, not because he acts like a wannabe despot. I worry we will sleepwalk into becoming another Venezuela. Every job report, new gov jobs eclipse what is being created by the private sector. Public Unions have so much power in the political discourse and they vote in a block for more benefits to them. As employment by the government continues to grow, this voting block will be too strong to overcome and they will just vote themselves everything.
It's concerning to me. Which is why we will maintain our home here. I am very lucky we live in a beautiful ski resort town (I am not in a rush to leave) but I want another option if Trudeau gets re-elected. 3/4 of our household have US citizenship so I would be the only problem if we wanted to relocate to US. Haha
I remember how highly regarded he seemed when he first got in. But even from... Not America ;) I can see a lot of really concerning issues with his authoritarian stance. Freezing people's bank accounts is the exact thing I try to sway people on when it comes to voting against CBDCs. People just look at me like I'm a mad man and say "yeah, they could, but they never would" or "isn't it a good thing to be able to freeze funds of criminals". The willingness in which people are giving over control of their lives is so scary.
Speaking of Canada however. Man I want to see Banff national park before I die. All the pictures/videos just look breathtaking.

I have not been to Banff but it is supposed to be amazing. I went to Whistler and that was great.

Well.. now I gotta add whistler to my list.

The drive alone from Vancouver to Whistler is incredible.

Man I wanna go see more of the world again. I think I got too bogged down with the day to day mundane grind. Need to make time for traveling.

I hear ya. Great to go see natural wonders like the Rocky Mountains. I find it invigorating. We live in a ski resort town on lake huron. I am 5 minutes walk to the lake and 7 drive to the "mountain" (lets be honest it's called a mountain but its just a giant hill).
Since moving here from the city I haven't had a great desire to go travelling but maybe in couple years when my daughter is older we will do a family trip to Europe or something to that effect. I would like the kids to do some travelling and see a bit of the world beyond Canada and the US.

Sounds amazing. Put Prague and Budapest on your list of places to see in Europe. Hugely underrated cities. Truly teeming with culture.

Did you get a chance to listen to some tunes from the band I sent you yesterday?
