pull down to refresh

I was doing some research and found two different articles from NY Times:
Long story short...
According to NY Times, there is an active and strong effort from chinese party to 'win hearts and minds' of many folks all around the globe. From both articles we can argue they are using all kinds of tactics in order to achieve their goals, from 'regular' youtube folks to multi-millionaire businessman to organize their agenda.
I know, everybody knows that, but I've enjoyed how they were able to track and released the names of some actors.
There are three questions that arises from my mind... First:
  • How effective is such strategy? I mean, do you think they really can change the mindset of a lot of people into their ways?
Second:
  • I'm pretty sure most of us are freedom believers, but since the last decade all I have seen is major movement from all governments in order to restrain or mock folks like us, who simply wants to maximize personal freedom. The sad part, either from left wing and also from right wing, everyone wants to impose their agenda through means that reduces personal freedom (at least is what I feel here in Brazil...). What do you feel about this matter on the place you live?
Third:
  • I know we already have the tools to promote our thoughts (at least I suppose it's how most of us here think), is it important, in your opinion to take some sort of action? If yes, what exactly? Suggestions?

I think Chinese propaganda has been effective in buying influence from big corps and powerful people, but not necessarily in how regular people perceive the country.
