It is possible that at some point in the future a new type of currency will be introduced. This could be digital currency token that is similar to Bitcoin, but is not decentralised. The issuance of the token could be controlled by the government and it could be promoted to the population as a way of fighting climate change. This CDBC currency could be based on the amount of carbon emitted due to the production of the products and services that you buy. An argument could be made that nobody has any right to pollute any more than anyone else and therefore everyone should be given exactly the same ration of carbon credits to spend.

There is already an existing carbon credit system in place. It is used to promote the planting of trees. Companies that are releasing carbon into the atmosphere are required to buy carbon credits on the market. Farmers are incentivised to plant trees on their land, they are awarded carbon credits based on the number of trees that they plant and they can sell these credits on the market. This traded market in carbon credits could be used as the basis of the new CBDC currency.

Anyone that speaks out against this plan could have their money taken away from them. Their bank accounts could be frozen in the same way as the Canadian truckers experienced when they protested peacefully against the covid lockdown. In world where paper money is rapidly being phased out, not having a bank account is a serious problem. You cannot, buy food. You cannot save money. You can only work on a hand to mouth basis. In practice you would have to work for someone else that does have a bank account. In effect you would be a slave.

In terms of the carbon credits being awarded equally to all people, there may of course be an exception for the people that put this system into place, as they have obviously saved the world from certain destruction because of climate change. They could argue that they have a moral right to have more of the carbon tokens per person than the ordinary people.

If you believe that there is any danger of this becoming a reality, the best way to avoid it is to talk about it, before it comes into effect.
