You hear a lot about value for value (aka v4v) in this space. I think it's something that makes sense in theory, but often doesn't click until it happens to you.
Seeing the rewards system go through various experiments has gotten me thinking about my niche in this community. I don't really post a lot of new content - mostly comments on other's posts, chiming in to discussions, etc.
But where I've really found a home is by contributing to SN itself via FOSS work. I feel this is my best way to add value to the ecosystem, at least for the time being. It's extremely satisfying to see folks use the changes that I make as part of SN, alongside the changes of the other engineers. The sats that come in from that work is icing on the cake. I feel this is a tremendous example of v4v.
So anyway, thank you for being here. Thank you for reading this brain dump. And thank you for encouraging others to provide value!

I've also found that I'm not primarily adding value through original posts. I try to make them sparingly and always with a mind to what the community has expressed interest in.
Where I seem to provide the most value is in commenting on others' posts. This is in-line with the reason I started spending time here. I want to help alternative platforms challenge Big Tech. For that to happen, sites like SN need active users to drive network effects. I'm glad I can make SN better for those posting good original content.
Thanks for everything you've done to make this a better place, too.

We all make this place what it is. Thank you!

Idea: make a page with a feed of live commits (git log) from stacker.news repo with a lightning bolt icon beside each commit so users can zap you for your code not just your comments

Gosh, this reminds me of theymos's attempts to get alternative forum software written for bitcointalk dot org. (I just checked and they still run on "Powered by SMF 1.1.19 | SMF © 2006-2009, Simple Machines").
Can't remember the details, but at the time, his bounty for that was something like 10 or 15 BTC. Unfortunately he abandoned the idea when none of the proposals "felt right" (or something to that effect.)
How many ex- or current bitcointalk users do we have here on SN?

here; OG since 2012

Nice! Still active on or reading bitcointalk?

Just recently but it appears most of the action is same type as it was last time I checked a few years back; everyone posting has big banner ads to whatever service they're promoting so it is hard to gauge the genuineness of replies - not saying posting for satoshis is necessarily the best solution but it at least neutralizes shilling to some degree and so we can see there is certainly a much chiller vibe going on SN here.

That is a cool idea!

I used to tell people that I am not a creative person because I cannot draw beautiful art or write dope lyrics. "I'm good at dotting the i and crossing the t, analytical stuff suits me better", is what I would say.
I used to flirt with the idea of a podcast but I struggled with creating content that I like to read/watch. I discovered that I'm not passionate enough to podcast about it.
After months of nudging by Lotus, one of my earliest Bitcoiner friends as a Bitcoiner in Miami, I was confident in my ability to be creative in things that I am passionate about. (Fitness & Bitcoin)
Around that time, Captain Brunch started his v4v podcast, Saturday Night LIT. I was one of the first few episodes and at the end of my time; the host asked me where people could find me and I did have a good answer but it lit a fire in me.
This v4v idea lead me to start thinking of ways I could provide value and that led to me starting my personal training business. I''ve always encouraged my family and friends to workout. I value my bitcoin but if someone provides value to me then I like to pay in bitcoin. I also want to earn it as well.
That's why I did NASM Certified Personal Trainer program so I could learn how to be a more effective trainer. Now that I am training people and making educational fitness content for Bitcoiners, I feel like I am full of creativity!
I'm learning a whole new suite of skills so I can make content that people are entertained by long enough to get some value from it. That combined with the personal satisfaction I get from now getting paid bitcoin to do something that I really love has me feeling happier than I have in a minute.
When I go to bitcoin meetups and people comment on something I've posted on NOSTR or ask me to show them a stretch or form tips, I know they are getting some value from it.
So all that to say, I really identify with this post because I feel like I have found my way to provide Value to this community. Not just SN, or the Miami bitcoin scene, but the greater bitcoin community.

This is a good post, but how one earth did you get 100k+ sats for it? You just got more sats in 3 hours than I've seen developers get from AMAs here! 😵‍💫
Which actually brings up a context-relevant point: What the hell determines what people value?
I've studied that question professionally for years, and I can confidently say, I am no closer to answering it today than I was when I was an advertising newb.
Anyway, I sent you 50 sats. Everyone else is sending you sats after all, and I don't want to feel left out. Group psychology 👌

Someone zapped 100K at once, I have no idea who or why lol but let it be known that I'm extremely grateful.

There could easily come a time when zapping you 100K sats for this post, will be the equivalent of someone in 2012 tossing you 10 bitcoins.

Dang, you mean a passing 2012-era whale could see an innocuous post, have a little chuckle, and drop 500k sats for the moment's entertainment?
I like this future.

I have seen your commits on the GitHub. It's nice, yeah TBH people really under appreciate open source.
mostly comments on other's posts, chiming in to discussions, etc.
We are able to do it because of your work!
I also wanted to jump in to contribute, but Next.js(Vuejs forever) is not my thing! But yeah I will try to contribute something back!
