Honestly, it sounds like you are best served by a custodial lightning solution. I would not worry about storing funds on-chain if you are concerned about the cost of a dedicated hardware device. During busy periods, a hardware device is easily less than the cost of a few on-chain transactions.
Try Wallet of Satoshi, Blink, or Phoenix
Once you have stacked over $500 of BTC, I would then recommend spending some sats on that hardware wallet device, moving half to cold storage, and securing your seed offline.
I think l didn't make myself clear. My question was which better secure way to store bitcoin given my two options referred in my question

your question wasn't clear, but if you're not a techy guy I would say don't do either of them.
get a hardware wallet.
